CHANDELEUR AFTER IVAN

After looking at aerial photos of the island after Hurricane Ivan, they was concern that the island fishery had been dealt a setback. Other than the loss of land on the north end where the lighthouse is now further out in the water and the loss of some grass beds, mother nature seems to have made the islands better. They are rebuilding and the fishing so far this year has been better than last year. Hurricane George had the same affect when it visited in 1998 and the islands built back. The islands are building back again and the fish don't seem to mind - sometimes a little change goes a long way for the better. If you have never been to Chandeleur, it is a mysterious place but beautiful in its own way, just as are all the barrier isalnds off the coast.
